For you, if you want the right omega-6 supplement for numerous health benefits
The ingredients in Mega GLA Sesame Lignans can
Encourage a healthy inflammatory response
Offer highly concentrated GLA from borage oil
Help the formation of prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), which support vascular health
Promote healthy levels of biologically active dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid
Provide a product with sesame lignans for augmented (or similar) effects
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), healthy omega-6 acid, plays a role in healthy prostaglandin (PGE1) formation and inhibiting inflammatory factors, both of which can promote vascular and whole-body health. Enhancing GLA supplement with sesame lignans can enable GLA to work much better in the body.
Ingredients
Essential fatty acids your body cannot make
Your body needs fatty acids to survive, though it is able to make all but two of them: linoleic acid (LA), in the omega-6 family, and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in the omega-3 family.
These two fatty acids must be supplied from dietary sources and are therefore considered essential fatty acids (EFAs). Omega-6 fatty acids like linoleic acid are well-supplied in the diet by meat and vegetable oils.
Omega-6 fatty acids and GLA
However, not all omega-6 fatty acids are of equal value. Some omega-6s can contribute to the production of inflammatory compounds such as arachidonic acid (AA), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), thromboxane A2 and leukotriene B4 (LTB4).
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) from borage oil, on the other hand, can help inhibit inflammatory compounds and promote healthy prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) levels, both of which promote whole body health. (1-4)
Concentrated GLA from borage oil
Borage oil supplements are an excellent way to obtain GLA. (5) GLA is the precursor to the biologically active dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA), which may provide optimal health effects. (4,6,7) Mega GLA Sesame Lignans delivers 400 mg of concentrated GLA from borage oil per softgel.
Enhanced with sesame lignans
Life Extension adds 10 mg of sesame lignan extract to each softgel to encourage optimal levels of beneficial DGLA. Sesame lignans can help inhibit the conversion of GLA into inflammatory arachidonic acid. (8)
This, in turn, can restrict the formation of other inflammatory compounds like PGE2 and LTB4, further supporting whole-body health. (9)
Numerous studies document GLA’s multiple health effects. Enhancing this formula with sesame lignans enables GLA to work much better in the body, increasing the benefit of supplemental GLA.
