Ceramides

Ceramides are a major component of our skin's surface.

They play a central role in preserving healthy-looking skin.

What are Ceramides?

Ceramides are natural lipid molecules that support the skin's matrix, keeping it firm. These complex lipids have the critical capacity to maintain the skin’s water-retaining properties, and in that protecting against moisture loss to keep skin youthful and supple.

When we are young, our bodies manufacture ample ceramide molecules to keep our skin healthy. However, with age, ceramide production declines, and skin begins to sag and wrinkle.

This decreases the skin’s moisture barrier, resulting in thinning, wrinkles, dryness, roughness, and even increased risk of infection.

Ceramides are present in food — including rice and wheat, but they do not occur in sufficient quantities to rejuvenate aging skin.

What can Natural Plant Ceramides do?

Ceramides have been added to some skin creams since the early 1990s, but because topically applied ceramides do not reach deeper skin layers, their effects are generally modest.

Seeking a way to revitalize aging skin, scientists have found skin rejuvenating benefits in ceramides from plant extracts that can be take orally:

  • These orally taken natural plant ceramides, phytoceramides, enter the bloodstream where they are naturally transported through all layers of the skin, working from the inside out.
  • Over the years, placebo-controlled, clinical studies have shown that orally taken plant-ceramide extracts can provide continuous maintenance for skin, such as boosting skin hydration, suppleness, smoothness, and other measures of youthful skin.
  • Moreover, a new study demonstrate that these strong anti-aging effects can also result in significant fine line- and wrinkle-reduction.
